How to fix “Waiting For Update” error in MT4/MT5

Updated on May 25, 2024

If you encounter the “Waiting For update” error message on an MT4 or MT5 asset chart, it indicates that the platform is not receiving price quotes for the asset. The same issue presents as just the asset name on screen rather than “Waiting For Updates”.

There could be various reasons for the “Waiting For Update” issue.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

  1. Check your internet connection by testing other programs that require internet access.

  1. Ensure that you are logged in correctly with the right account number, password, and server.

  1. Verify that you are trying to view the chart of a symbol that you are able to trade on your account type. For Prime accounts, only pairs with the “p” suffix will work (e.g., EURUSD.p) while assets tradable on a standard account should be without any suffix.

  1. Manually update the chart by right-clicking on the chart and selecting “Refresh”.

  1. Restart your platform by closing it, waiting for ten seconds, and reopening it.

  1. Ensure that you are using a BlackBull Markets branded MT4/MT5.

  1. Reduce the number of EAs and/or indicators running on the platform, as they can affect the charts if they consume too many computer resources.
